Abstract:
|
|
The LOCRUS Network would seek to stimulate research and knowledge sharing in the areas of effective management of habitats and sustainable management and conservation of fisheries, with respect to crustacea and sea-urchins. The work would also seek to stimulate new , and sustainable methods for aquaculture and restocking of fisheries, including stimulating development of artificial reefs. The biodiversity of the marine resource will also be a key objective. The network would encourage low-input aquaculture of these species, where appropriate, and integrated, where possible, to manage nutrient flux, particularly in sensitive coastal zones. The Network would also seek to address encourage new modelling techniques for populations in response to fishing effort, and interactions with ecosystem change – due to natural or anthropogenic factors.
