Guest researchers

Scientists and students from institutes and universities both within Sweden and abroad, are most welcome to conduct their research at TMBL. Since 2005 TMBL has also been host for a new EU Research Infrastructure initiative, the Centre for Marine Chemical Ecology, CeMaCE.

Arrange a course or conference at TMBL

TMBL offers an inspiring environment for courses, meetings and workshops, and the premises are available for users from outside Göteborg and Stockholm universities. Facilities include a lecture hall and several seminar rooms, a comfortable housing and a full board restaurant. Activities related to TMBLs core business can be offered on request, for example a marine excursion or a guided tour of the laboratory.

TMBL also organizes educational programs and courses for end user groups, for example teachers, coastal guards and fishermen. Courses arranged by TMBL are presented under Education in the main menu.

Getting here

TMBL is located on the northern Swedish west coast, close to the Norwegian border, on the beautiful island of Tjärnö. The nearest town is Strömstad, 14 km away. It is about 160 km to Göteborg and the same distance to Oslo.

TMBL Strömstad

TMBL is located on the eastern side of the Kosterfjord, at 58° 52' N, 11° 10' E. The island of Tjärnö is connected to the mainland by bridges.

 

Public transportations

Västtrafik operates buses between Strömstad and TMBL, and buses and trains between Göteborg and Strömstad

Timekspressen runs buses from Oslo to Strömstad.

There are ferries from Norway:
Color Line operates between Sandefjord and Strömstad
Kystlink operates between Langesund and Strömstad.

 

Route descriptions

Driving from Göteborg
Take the E6 north and follow the signs for Oslo. After about 150 km turn left on road number 176, at the signpost ”Strömstad 12”. After 6 km again turn left, at the signpost ”Tjärnö 7”. After 8 km, and after crossing the islands of Daftö and Öddö, and passing Tjärnö church (on the right), you will come to the bridge onto the island Saltö. Parking for TMBL is on the left immediately before the bridge at the signpost ”Marinbiologiskt laboratorium”. The laboratory is a short walk down the road opposite the entrance to the parking.

Driving from Oslo
Take the E6 south and follow the signs for Göteborg. You will cross the impressive Svinesund bridge, entering Sweden, shortly before seeing signposts to Strömstad.  After about 15 km you will see a signpost for Strömstad, turn right here at the traffic lights, towards Strömstad. After 3 km, at the next traffic lights, turn left. At the end of this road, (after another 2 km), turn left. Follow this road 4 km until you see the signpost ”Tjärnö 7”, turn right here. After 8 km, and after crossing the islands of Daftö and Öddö, and passing Tjärnö church (on the right), you will come to the bridge onto the island Saltö.  Parking for TMBL is on the left immediately before the bridge at the signpost ”Marinbiologiskt laboratorium”.  The laboratory is a short walk down the road opposite the entrance to the parking.
